【Sensoji Temple】 Benches under a wisteria trellis in the precincts

Store Locations

The bench under the “wisteria trellis” is located in the precincts of “Sensoji Temple”.

It is located on the right side facing the big, bright red “Hozomon gate”.

There are about 10 benches under the “wisteria trellis”, and in summer, mist showers are available for visitors to cool off and rest.

Near the “wisteria trellis” is a temporary storefront operated by “Ito En”, famous for its “Oi Ocha” tea.

Drink servers are installed, and to our surprise, water and tea are available for free!

However, they are not always installed, so consider yourself lucky if you find one.

Directions from Sensoji Temple

It is located about a minute’s walk from “Sensoji Temple”.

  1. With your back to “Sensoji Temple”, head for the big, bright red gate “Hozomon gate” in front of you.
  2. Go to the left side of the “Hozomon gate” and you will see a “wisteria trellis”.

Store Locations

The bench and lawn are on the right side of the “fivestory pagoda” to the left of “Sensoji Temple”.

Seven benches have been installed. Across the street is a lawn.

Since there is nothing to block the sun, it is best to use it just to sit and rest for a while.

On holidays, food stalls line one adjacent street, so it is a good idea to buy your food and eat it here!

It is located just a short distance from “Sensoji Temple”.

  1. Turn left at “Sensoji Temple”.
  2. If you follow the path to the left of the “flag pole”, you will see “lawn” on the left and “bench” on the right.

【Kaminarimon gate】 Asakusa culture sightseeing center (air-conditioned)

The “Asakusa culture sightseeing center” is a tourist information facility operated by Taito City, located across from the “Kaminarimon gate”.

The multipurpose space on the sixth floor is a slightly dark room with about 15 chairs and a screen showing the history of Taito City.

You can eat and drink lunch here, but it is not recommended for families as conversation is not allowed.

The “Observation Terrace” on the 8th floor has two large 10-seat chairs where visitors can rest and enjoy the view of Asakusa.

Although not free, the observation terrace has “Asakusa Observation Cafe Cafe Rion”, where you can take a rest over a cup of tea or a piece of cake.

Directions from Asakusa Station

The “Asakusa culture sightseeing center” is located on the opposite side of the pedestrian crossing from the “Kaminarimon gate”, and is characterized by its wooden louvers.

【Kaminarimon】 7-Eleven Asakusa Kaminarimon-mae Store Eat-in space

“7-Eleven Asakusa Kaminarimon-mae Store” is located just across the intersection in front of “Kaminarimon”.

An “eat-in area” is located to the left as you enter the store, where you can eat and drink your purchases.

There are six chairs set up and the space is large enough so that you can enter with a stroller if available.

【Tobu Skytree Line Asakusa Station】 Asakusa Ekimise Rooftop Rest Space

“Asakusa EKIMISE” is a commercial facility attached to “Asakusa Station on the Tobu Skytree Line”.

The rooftop, which can be reached by elevator, is equipped with covered benches and vending machines.

In summer, it becomes a BBQ site as “Noryo Hare Terrace”, but you can still sit and rest during that period.

The view is so nice that it is worth going there even if you are not taking a break!

There are not many tall buildings around Sensoji Temple, so it is rare to find a spot where you can view the city of Asakusa from a high place like this.

Directions from Tobu Skytree Line Asakusa Line

  1. Enter the main entrance, turn left, and go through the glass door to “Asakusa Ekimise”.
  2. Go straight ahead, and you will see an elevator on the left side, proceed to RF (Rooftop Floor).
    • After exiting the elevator, follow the path behind the shed on the left and you will find a covered bench.

“Asakusa Public Hall” is a facility with a hall for events and gatherings operated by Taito City.

There is also a ramp on the right side of the main entrance on “Orange-dori Street”, so visitors can enter the facility with a stroller.

Upon entering the facility, four couches are set up in an air-conditioned room as a “resting place”.

  • Route from the “Toei Asakusa Line Asakusa Station”
    • The “Asakusa Public Hall” is located in the middle of the route. Approx 15 min.

Directions from Sensoji Temple

It is located about 5 minutes walk from “Sensoji Temple”.

  1. With your back to “Sensoji Temple”, go straight ahead toward the big red gate, “Hozomon Gate”.
  2. Go straight through the “Hozomon Gate” and turn right at the first corner you see.
  3. Continue on “Denpoin-dori Street” and turn left at the second corner.

【Sumidagawa river】 Benches on the riverbed

The “Sumidagawa river” has many places to sit along its banks.

The view is great because there is nothing to block the view, but the sun is also great, so please be careful to avoid sunstroke.

It can be reached from anywhere in Asakusa!

  • The “Sumidagawa river” flows on the east side of Asakusa, so if you head east with the “Tokyo Sky Tree” as your landmark, you can reach the banks of the “Sumidagawa river”.
  • There are stairs along the river at various locations, such as “Sukeroku Yume Dori street”, from which you can go down to the “Sumidagawa river” bed.
  • There is a stairway by the bridge that crosses the “Sumidagawa river”, so it is a good idea to aim for the bridge.
