About Dagashiya

A “Dagashiya” is a store that Japanese people often go to as children that sells relatively inexpensive snacks called “Dagashi”.

“Tamaya-Kashi-Ten” is located on the back side of “Sensoji Temple” on “Senzoku-dori Street”, about a five-minute walk from the temple.

A kind old lady sells them.

There is a small basket at the entrance that you can take with you to choose your sweets.

When you’re done choosing, hand the basket to the kind old lady and pay the bill!

Route from Sensoji Temple

It is located about a 10-minute walk from “Sensoji Temple”.

  1. Pass by “Sensoji Temple” and turn left when you reach “Kototoi-dori Street”.
  2. Go straight and when you see the entrance to “Hisago-dori Street” on your left, cross the street at a slightly wider intersection on your right.
  3. Go straight on “Senzoku-dori Street” and you will see “Tamaya-Kashi-Ten” on your left.

“Fuji Stationery Store” is located in front of “Fuji Park”, which is behind “Sensoji Temple”.

As a stationery store, it sells not only candy but also stationery.

It is located about a 6-minute walk from “Sensoji Temple”.

  1. Go through the right side of “Sensoji Temple” to “Kototoi-dori Street”, the main street behind the temple.
  2. Cross the intersection where there is the “あんです(Home bakery Andesu Matoba) “.
  3. Go straight ahead and you will see “Fuji Park” on your left, and “Fuji Stationery Store” on your right.

The “Kamihusen” is located in the “Nishisando (Omatsuri shopping district)”, which is straight ahead after turning left at “Sensoji Temple”.

The store is relatively new and the “Dagashi” are very neatly displayed along the walls.

Of all the candy shops introduced here, this one is located closest to Sensoji Temple.

Located in an arcade area, with stores nearby where you can play goldfish scooping and other games, it is also an ideal shelter in case you get caught in the rain while sightseeing at “Sensoji Temple”!

  2. Go to the right on the road “Flag pole”.

Another store in Asakusa where you can buy “Dagashi” is the discount store “Don Quijote”.

It is retro and not Asakusa-like, but it is a good place to buy “Dagashi” as souvenirs, as you can buy them in large quantities “Dagashi” in boxes!
